HR Strategy and Corporate
Alignment

|
How well does this describe
your organization?
-
Every employee, manager, and executive shares a common, clear
understanding of the organization's mission, vision, values, and
goals
-
Every employee in a department clearly
understands how his or her job contributes to the success of the department and the organization
-
Each member of a work unit clearly
understands the needs of their customers, and how they contribute to overall customer
satisfaction
An aligned organization may sound
like an unattainable goal to many, but for those few organizations
that have attained it, the rewards are satisfied customers, financial
success, higher quality, and satisfied employees.
Getting to this point is not easy;
it requires hard work by executives, staff, and especially by
mid-level managers. There are hurdles to overcome. Management and
human resource systems may need to be changed or replaced. The
organization's culture may have to change, sometimes dramatically.
Our research shows that in some organizations, as few as 15% of
employees and 25% of managers believe that senior management is doing
a good job of running their organization.
Jim Barksdale the former CEO of Netscape was quoted as saying, "The main
thing is to keep the main thing, the main thing." He
knew, as we all have learned, that keeping everyone focused on the
mission of the organization is the important work of senior
management. In creating Total Alignment™, the corporate
mission, vision, and values become the framework for the management
systems used to ensure that the organization is focused on the "main
thing."
You can visualize the alignment process as depicted
in this drawing.

Helping your organization achieve Total Alignment™ is
a consulting engagement that combines a number of individual services into an
integrated whole. The engagement includes a reviews of: the process used to set corporate
objectives based on the mission, vision, and values of the
organization; the process use for the regular review of operational performance; and
the process used to evaluate and compensate management and staff.
We
also review, and when appropriate, redesign the management systems used by
the organization. Diagnostics can include employee surveys,
management focus groups, and targeted interviews with corporate
